On July 28, 2011, The B.R.A.S.S. House, Inc. was formed by two single mothers, Shante Jones and Shanzet Jones. Being teenage mothers themselves, they overcame the obstacles and challenges that life threw at them. Although they initially embarked upon different paths professionally, eventually their vision became one. Having worked with families in various capacities for several years, Shante and Shanzet decided to combine their efforts and vision to assist single mothers in the community that they grew up in, Baltimore City.
Since inception, The B.R.A.S.S. House, Inc. has successfully obtained its 501(c)3 tax-exempt status.
We have initiated an annual signature event, Purses for a Purpose. Since 2013, we have collected gently used purses, feminine hygiene and toiletry products. Our dedicated volunteers have assisted with collecting donations and filling hundreds of purses and distributing them to various local shelters in Baltimore City and Baltimore County for Mother’s Day.
We provide resources and referrals for individuals seeking services in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. Our commitment is to these citizens who we strive to assist with bridging the gap in services for those in need.
Over the years, we have hosted several fundraisers to assist with the purchase of a building to house potential residents. Our board members have attended various training and classes to help propel the organization to the next level.
